Slowly fading in the back of my mind
There’s all this lost time
But wasn’t I there
I wasn’t there
To varying degrees
That’s the lost time
Won't be the last time
In those moments
I surrender to doubt
I’m overcome with doubt
But what about the spent time
Wasn’t I there
To varying degrees
In those moments
I’m unencumbered
I don’t doubt my presence
I don’t doubt
I found myself walking in a beautiful place
The grasses around me were so lush, glowing green
And burgeoning waters were glistening
Under a brilliant sun
Wandering the valley of the golden skeletons
One of those ancients lifted its skull
A sentinel waiting where the path had flooded
This curious creature asked innocently
A question whose answer betrayed my mortality
And with that reminder
Like a punch in the gut
I had to admit
That this place was not home for me
This world I suddenly had to leave
All of those ancients
Resting their skulls
Sentinels watching
Eternal youth stumble
